Ambassador Cam, #34

Ambassador Hotel, 9:45 am, Sept. 13, 2006

The tractors are busy at the Ambassador site, clearing out the grassy field that was once in front of the building.

The construction work that is going on at the Ambassador gives new meaning to the words, "Working Slowly."

Why tell the person to "Shut Up?" They have as much a right to say how they feel as you do. The fact of the matter is the construction site has been so slow.

Does anybody know what is left inside the Ambassador Hotel Building? Is the Embassy Ballroom still intact?

huh? There is no Ambassador Hotel building. All that's left is the Cocoanut Grove, and who knows how much of the Casino Level that was in that wing.

The main dirt grading has started at the site for the first new school. The groves days are numbered.

This is really sad.

I hate to lose old buildings with such historical significance.

There will be a renewed interest in the hotel after the release of "Bobby". I was watching television the night he was shot and will never forget how traumatized I was as a 14 year old.

The closest thing that we have to the Ambassador is the Huntington Rtiz-Carlton in Pasedena. Someone made the suggestion here and on the Ambassador website of a new Ambassador being built. Some thought it was a great idea, some thought it was a bad idea. Recently, Ritz Carlton either is building or re-building bungalows on the Hunitngton site. They have done a first rate job of restoring the hotel. I think they would do an excellent job should they ever undertake a project of building a new Ambassador. Yes, it would never be the same because it would be built at a different location. Yes, it would never be the same because it would not be the old one (Though they could build a museum in a new hotel that pays tribute to the original one.) But can anyone sit there and tell me that they would not be the ideal company to build a new Ambassador based on their work on the Huntington hotel? Just go to the Ritz Carlton web site and see the pictures.
